During the summer months the team here at DeKiln has been very busy, with the main focus on delivering our largest order of our sustainable tiles to date. We have also been testing new coatings for our tiles which provide durability and enhance our designs. The team is happy to say we have started the process of setting up our pilot plant in Stoke-on-Trent.

Holland Harvey Order

At the beginning of July we fulfilled an order for 12sqm, our largest to date for architectural and design firm Holland Harvey. The London based company wanted to kit out their new office with materials and furniture from sustainable companies, we were lucky enough to be chosen for the walls in their kitchen. The order was a real test of our production capabilities and the team’s ability to work together as a cohesive production line. This project also allowed us to spot bottlenecks in the process and to make improvements to increase production speed for our next big order. We couldn’t be happier with how the installation turned out, Arjun and Harriet were able to take a day trip to London to visit the office and take some photos of the tiles in their new home. Harriet commented “The tiles looked wonderful, it was amazing to see our work on such a large scale”.

Coatings

Aled has been working on some new coatings during this time so that we can provide customers with matte and glossy finishes for our tiles. This work is going well and we are happy with the results so far and are looking to continue tests in the next few months. These top coats allow us to provide a more diverse range for our customers.

Pilot plant

The pilot plant design is currently underway with the equipment ordered and plans laid. We can’t wait to get the space set up and ramp up production. We are also working on the logistics of scaling up our current process.

Team updates

It is sadly time for Harriet to leave us as her four month placement has come to an end, and she is off to start her PhD in October; it’s been a pleasure having her on the team and we wish her all the luck with her new endeavours. To help smooth the transition of this departure we have hired a new starter to begin in September who will focus on our sales pipeline and continue the work Harriet has been doing.

It’s been a busy few months, and the company is generating lots of momentum. Stay tuned here and on our socials to hear about what we are getting up to.
