A revolutionary new material called StarCrete, made from Martian soil, potato starch, and salt, is twice as strong as regular concrete, with a compressive strength of 72 MPa. This material is ideal for space construction due to its affordability and accessibility, using ingredients easily available to astronauts. The recipe replaces a previous version that required astronaut blood and urine, making it more sustainable. StarCrete could also serve as a greener alternative to traditional concrete on Earth. Researchers are exploring ways to further improve the material through their start-up, Dekiln.
