It’s a hot sunny day in Manchester, what could be better than heading down to DeKiln’s open day? To commemorate our many successes recently we decided to host an open day and evening event. Reasons to celebrate were our new showroom, being successful in our application for the Royal Academy of Engineering Green Future Fellowship and the start of our strategic partnership with Johnson tiles. The day was all about our new show room and laboratory space based in the heart of Manchester and celebrating alongside our partners (Green Angel Ventures, Frontier IP and Johnson tiles) who helped to get us here.
The event was a wonderful way to show how the process of making the world’s most sustainable tile Eralith is done. Founder and CEO Aled provided tours for our guests showing how our tiles go from recycled gypsum plaster (a very common waste product from the ceramics industry) to our strong, durable and stylish tiles.
We were lucky not only to have the sun but also Johnson tiles, Frontier IP and Green Angel Ventures in attendance. The support from both of these companies has been integral to helping us progress and expand production. Our strategic partnership with Johnson tiles will allow us to licence our technology to them, and they will be our distributors.
There was also time for our guests to paint one of our tiles to take home as a reminder of the event. The session allowed the partygoers to paint their tile and then once their design was complete 20 minutes later the tile was cured and ready to take home. This is part of Studio Dekiln, a new venture we are in the process of setting up, which will provide painting workshops which use our sustainable tiles as the canvas. These workshops will be run for both corporate and social events, stay tuned to find out more.
Throughout the day we were able to speak to so many other start-up companies and Aled is keen to create a start-up hub in the surrounding area of our office as there are multiple vacant rentals on the street which can host dry labs. This would be a cheap way for companies to scale up their systems and also allow for collaboration all along Sheffield Street in the heart of Manchester.
We would love to see you come along to the showroom, or at a tile painting workshop. Please stay tuned to our website, LinkedIn and Instagram, where we will post all of our updates. If you’re interested in learning more, or in our Sheffield Street start-up hub idea, we’d love to chat!
